Jan creates hand-bound leather journals, and other fiber/paper products through her home-based business Out of Ink. Her journals are hand-crafted in a crude wooden press. She seeks to be environmentally friendly by recycling leathers and using recycled papers when available. Her journals follow different themes. Each leather cover is individual and unique.
Bone and Quill (Writer’s journal); Garden Lore (Gardener’s journal); Green Dreams (Golfer’s journal); Music Fusion (Musician’s journal); Kitchen Reflections ( kitchen memories and recipes); Blank Journal; Western Journal; Lined journal( may include quotes and choice of dark or faded lines). These journals can be unique gifts; they can be written in and given as a legacy or they can be given to someone with a request they be gifted back full of stories and shared memories. They work as word sketch books and guest registers. Each is a one-of-a-kind functional art piece.
Jan has a love of words and students; she is a published writer and a retired teacher. She is a member of two writing groups, and Saskatchewan Writer’s Guild. She is a juried member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council and has a degree in English and Art. She works from her home studio in Big River. Some of her other products includes quilting, sewing, and card making, hot wax (encaustic painting) and Rip-art from up-cycled papers. |
