RoseAnne Watier lives west of the Prince Albert National Park in the beautiful rolling hills south of Big River, Saskatchewan. She hand-dipped candles with her family for many years and enjoyed the peaceful craft. A friend, Jude Marshall, and RoseAnne were interested in creating practical works of art with an environmentally green medium that would use a local renewable resource. RoseAnne had the ability to craft traditional hand-dipped tapers, and pure filtered beeswax was 20 minutes away at West Cowan Apiaries, so mwCandles.com became an entity creating unique candles in their studio.

Being allergen-free, nothing is added to the wax. RoseAnne also filters the wax two more times for a longer and cleaner burn. Quality testing started in 2003, and is continued to guarantee consistent results. Testing also proved that each taper has to be individually dipped so that the wick weave is correct for the best burn. Therefore the wick cannot connect two tapers as is commonly found. And because each candle is hand crafted, custom sizes are available.

Over time, a natural antique looking surface can develop, called the ‘bloem’. Gentle polishing with a soft cloth will have the beautiful pearl-like sheen reappear. Remember that beeswax burns very hot. Let your imagination choose a heatproof holder for the larger candles. Although the sculptured end is Roseanne’s trade mark, tapers can be easily trimmed with a warm knife to fit your favourite holders. Do not leave burning candles unattended.

Awarded the Saskatchewan Craft Council "Excellence in Functional and Production Ware."
