I am from Estevan, Saskatchewan, and I have always been interested in the uniqueness of gourds. I started growing small ornamental types for fall displays but have now progressed to growing much larger varieties.
My artistry of gourding has been self-taught and has produced many rewarding pieces. Each individual gourd has its own personality. The way a gourd is grown and dried determines the artwork’s position and where the opening will be cut. Designing with leaves provides freedom of expression in size, shape, color, and texture.
I have been asked many times, “So what exactly is it that you do?” Being “juried” through the Saskatchewan Craft Council provides an opportunity for my artwork to be displayed to the public. |
