My prime objectives for making art is to create work with strong emotive expression. I endeavour to make physical the complexity of human nature by my own conscious and subconscious experiences infused into figurative forms using drawings, stone, clay/paperclay and styrofoam.
Another primary concern is the importance of process, and to deliberately present the act of creation is not so much about the finished piece, but about releasing an emotive energy depicting the dynamics of human nature and form. I explore this notion by utilizing figurative forms and intertwine them to express a merging and morphing into a unified whole of ‘one’.
My response to enquiries about the substance and meaning of my work is very much about the observer and what their impressions are. I have created something; I have unleashed and infused a lot of energy into it, and my attitude about the results and the process is separate from the viewers; once a piece is completed, regardless of medium or intent, it takes on a new presence and is meant to be contemplated and conclusions drawn on a personal level by the observer. |
