I have been a printmaker since 1980, working predominantly in stone and plate lithography with forays into intaglio, silk screening and relief printmaking. In 1996 my work began to shift from printing on paper to printing on fabric. This evolution was due primarily to my involvement with theatre (costumes) and the craft community of Saskatchewan. My participation in collaborative art making conferences, such as “Emma” in Saskatchewan and “CollaboratioNZ” in New Zealand, has had a huge impact on my work and on my identity as an artist. I no longer see myself exclusively as a printmaker, but as an artist with a desire to expand and explore different materials and skill sets. I am still very much a printmaker but I am also a fibre arts and a metal worker. Not surprisingly, these areas do have their foundation in printmaking.
My inspiration comes from many sources, but I am particularly interested in human relationships / interactions, words and writing, the art of other cultures, history and the work of other artists. |
