Prairie Sculptors Association was formed in 1981 by Bill Epp and a group of Saskatchewan artists many of whom were Bill’s former sculpture students. Bill Epp(1930-1995) was a University of Saskatchewan Art Professor and an internationally known bronze sculptor who founded Saskatchewan’s first bronze art foundry in Martensville in 1969. Prairie Sculptors Association ,PSA grew out of a group of dedicated artists who frequented the bronze foundry and the home of Bill Epp.
Over the years the membership list of the Association has changed and evolved. The group has organized and participated in numerous sculpture symposia, sculpture shows, snow carving events and educational workshops. Over the years PSA has brought in several international Sculptors to participate in Saskatchewan sculptural events. PSA members have traveled to participate in local, national and international art events. The group presents sculpture exhibitions on a regular basis. The shows are always very strong.
Prairie Sculptors Association members organize and participate in one sculpture symposium each year. Sculptors get together for two weeks and produce large scale sculptures. Sculptors are available to share techniques, equipment and manpower in order to assist each other in producing works that would be very difficult for one artist working alone.
The current members of PSA are established or emerging sculptors who work in a variety of mediums. Several PSA members have large scale public sculptures on display in various cities while others prefer to work on smaller scale sculptures. The styles change and the mediums change but artistic excellence remains the primary goal. |
Mandate:
- To promote sculpture as an expressive art form
- To share knowledge and techniques
- To support fellow PSA members in their artistic pursuits
