I am currently living in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan and working as a Studio Artist. My influences and decisions have been largely based on ideas of the subconscious through the work of historical movements of expressionism, impressionism, and surrealism. I would like my work to reveal the emotional self, in the hope that the viewer creates a connection. The formal aesthetic of the image is intended to lead the viewer into other levels of engagement. The content of the pieces will be based on questions related to the objectification of women, the male gaze, fetishism of the female figure, and the female sexual psyche. I am currently researching the contemporary painters Jenny Saville, Lucien Freud, Joan Semmel, Paul Ruiz and Tony Sherman. In many of my paintings the representation of the figure suggests the empowered woman through uninhibited expression. My objectives for these pieces are to combine ideas of intimate and/or emotionally private with intellectual connotations.
